Rl Carriers - Vehicle Driver Review

I was heading to New York for a family celebration. On 85 North a R&L double truck came up behind me.

The driver wantef me to go faster however, I was doing the speed limit. The *** dri er began to shine a hjge light into my vehicle not his high beams. This light came from withi the cab of the truck. I was blinded from seeing any cats in front of me.

If I had to stop short this driver would have crushed my car. 7 driver yhen rode on the side of me and flashed the light some more. I became upset and fell back behind the drivers truck so I could get the license plate number. The driver tried to stop short so I could run into the back of the truck.

I managed to get the plate number and pulled off the road to call and place a complaint.

I have every intention of filing a complaint with the sheriff's department in Virginia. The this was a verh traumatizing experience.

Lot of people do not know the trucks speed is regulated and corresponds to the drivers's record and experience. Time is money.

And how hard it is to drive a rig. He probably wanted you to move over a lane so he could safely pass and not go around you (safely). He would like to keep a steady speed. That is why some trucks or groups of trucks drive slower than others.

Just put yourself in their shoe's and help him out. He/She is a Pro.

I just stay out of their way and blind spots. No Problem.

Umm, that doesn't give the driver the right to shine a light in the vehicle blinding the driver!! WTH are you talking about help the driver out!?!

Driving the speed limit is LAW!! You don't ride someone's tail with an 18 wheels of death and destruction! Geesh! What loser!

Let me guess? You're a Trucker, right?

Think you own the road? Run people off the road?

Why did you slow down. You were looking for trouble.Next time get on up the road.

Generally filing a complaint with the police won't do much unless someone else can independently cooperate your story.

Inflexible on delivery to homeowners

Ordered from Vintage woodworks porch materials. R and L in Arlington TN called the day prior to delivery and said they would deliver from 10-2 pm. I called back and said I could be there from 1-5 and they said it was impossible to deliver because of their route schedule. No night delivery no saturdays. Told them then it would be next week til I could find someone to receive shipment. and they said they won't store item. They told me I could pick it up before 5 pm. They are closed on weekends. If you ship to residential clients do not use this farce of a business. The whole reason for LTL is material that is too large, heavy etc or we would terminal pickup. Don't ruin your business with these folks.

Can't make delivery

R&L Carriers has been trying to make a delivery since Tuesday of last week. I do not believe they are capable of making the deliver.

On Monday 8/5/13 they called and stated that the stainless cabinets would be delivered on Tuesday 8/6/13 between the hours of 12-5p. I specifically asked if it would be after 5 and was told they do not deliver after 5. I told them I had workers that were on site every day until 5. I asked that they give the driver my number in case he had issues finding home and it would be nice to have 30 minute notice.

On the 6th I did not get any call from R&L. I have cell phone records to prove that no one from R&L called at any time on the 6th.

One the 7th I receive a call from Shipper at 3:41PM CST and email from Delva below:

It's Delva here. I left a voicemail for you, but wanted to follow up with an email. I would like to speak to you about the delivery of your BBQ Guys items. Please contact me at your earliest convenience so we can discuss further.

I returned her call at 4pm CST and was told that I needed to contact R&L and was give 1-80*-543-**** and tracking number.

I contacted R&L around 410. A male answered the phone. He told that a driver had tried to deliver the package on 8/6/13 and that no one was home. I was told driver called me and I did not answer. I asked if delivery was after 5 pm. He told me they do not deliver after 5pm. I then told him that I did not have any incoming missed calls, voice message etc from Tuesday. He said well all I know is driver said he called. He said that they could get package out next day if they got authorization from shipper. He said he could not do anything without re-authorization from shipper and he did not know why shippers ad given me his information.

I will contact them to redeliver. You should hear from them shortly.

I called R&L at 713-676-**** on Thursday 8th at 9:33 and they did not have authorization.

I called shippers choice at 10:29 to let you know what R&L had indicated.

R&L called and stated that they would be delivering on Friday from 12-5. I asked that they make sure that the paperwork had my number in case drive couldn’t find. I told them I was told driver was at location on Tuesday and no one was home. Workers were at location so maybe he was at wrong address. She said that she would make to call 30 min prior and she confirmed phone number.

Received a call from 225-296-**** at 10:30 to follow up and I let them know that R&L said deliver on Friday.

At 2:10 I received voice message from driver Isaac scot on 281-753-****. Message said trying to make a delivery since no one answer we will have to deliver on Monday. Call the terminal and they will tell you when we will come out.

At 2:14 I receive call from 863-984-**** the R&L Polk City Fl office. Message stated this is Joelle. I have a delivery and drive states stated he is at locked gate and cannot get in. We have instructions to call this number so please call us back.

I called driver at 2:15, 2:23, 2:29. 2:28, 2:27. ( I called driver from one phone and R&L from another phone at same time)

I called Polk county at 2:16 was transferred to Houston. Houston gave me to a female who stated she could contact the driver. Then she hung up on me.

I called Polk office back at 2:26 to get transferred back to Houston. This time I got a male. He stated they had not drivers that were at gates that he was aware of and could not get in. I then told him I had spoken with someone who was going to try to get driver. I gave him drivers cell number and stated that driver would not answer calls. Then he said he would contact Scott. He put me on hold and returned to say driver is not responding. He said he would call back if he got a hold of the driver.

At 2:50 I contacted shipper to let them know about the situation. Male was helpful and involved Logistics supervisor.

I received a call back at 3:03 from shippers stating that they would try to get delivery today. They said they would call back and let me know

Received call back from at 3:43 stating that they had spoken with R&L and that the cabinets would be delivered on Monday along with the pizza oven. Someone from R&L could call on Monday and that shoppers choice would also check on Monday.

4:34 I receive call from Scott the truck driver 281-753-****. He said that he could meet us in Hempstead if we wanted to pick up the cabinets off his truck. Hempstead is 34 miles from deliver location. This would have also required vehicle to be able to take the load. We told the driver that Shoppers choice told us that they had spoken with R&L and that both shipments would be delivered on Monday. We asked him where he had been prior because they said he was at a gate and could not get in. He said he was by a barn, a locked gate. Our property does not have barn or gate.

12:42 I receive a message from shipper asking if I had heard from R&L shipping. I told them I had not. She told me that is showed that packages were out for deliver.

6:30pm had missed call from 832-212-****.

6:44pm missed call from 713-676-**** and spoke with male at 6:48 pm. He said that driver was there and there was no one to pick up the shipment. I told him that was correct. That they had told me at R&L several time that they do not deliver after 5. I had workers onsite until 5 and they are gone. He wanted to know if I could get some there to get the package. I informed him I was in Houston 1.5 hours away. He told me that since I wasn’t there that a re-deliver fee would apply. I asked how that could be when they did not call to tell me that they were trying to deliver today. They did not call to tell that they were delivering during what time window, They had stated in the past communications they do not deliver after 5. It was almost 2 hours past time they say their driver delivers work. He told me that on the past Friday I was my fault that the delivery was not made. Driver was at my house and I was in the bathroom. I am not sure where that statement was dreamed up from. Last Friday I could have meet the driver to get the shipment. I told him that was not what had been communicated from shopper choice as what was going to take place and that I still have pizza over that was coming in on Monday. They he put me on hold. I

R&L Carriers Pick-up Ill-equipped and Unsafe

R&L Carriers committed to pick-up a shipping crate of personal belongings (an apartment's worth of stuff) at my family's home; they told us to just leave it in the driveway and they would take care of it. When the truck arrived, it had one older man operating it and attempting to load the crate.

We luckily had five people in the house (most of them 100-pound women) and he had us help load it, asking for several two-by-fours and trying to teach us to operate a pallet jack in the process. The crate was often precariously positioned and we had no idea whether it would fall on us or just fall and damage property.

If we hadn't had five people available, or hadn't had two-by-fours, R&L Carriers would have been completely unable to perform the pickup they promised. As it was, they were unable to do so safely or quickly.

DO NOT USE R & L CARRIERS , BAD SERVICE !

I run a large safe company in Nashville TN and have used R & L carriers off and on for the past 6 years. I will not be using them any longer.

They have damaged or distroyed over $50,0000 worth of products that I have shipped. The customer service is terrible and they refuse to cover over 50 cents per pound even they distroyed the items. THEY SUCK ! I will never use them again !

BEWARE , THEIR REPS LIE AND THEN THE CLAIMS DEPARTMENT WILL STALL YOU AND THEN DENY YOUR CLAIM, THIS IS A TERRIBLE COMPANY TO SHIP ANYTHING WITH. THEY EVEN DAMAGE INBOUND FREIGHT FROM OTHER SUPPLIERS.

After the claim department said they didn't receive my claim and then a denial letter for my claim other than the 50 cents a pound for my $1500 dollar product, my account rep finally got me a settlement for $500.00 . This is less than it cost me but I didn't have the time to waste on continued redtape.

I have requested that all companies that ship products to not use R & L and I will not use them in the future for shipments.

Damaged Shipment

I purchased delivery through FreightCenter.com and R+L Carriers was put to the task. I had a Victorian Antique packaged and needed shipped to Texas from North Carolina. Along the way they severely damaged the item to the point that the buyer would not accept it. I lost $1285 on the sale and now have been told the $400 shipping will not be refunded. On top of the $1685 lost because of R+L Carriers, the precious antique is ruined and will never hold value again. Opportunity cost can be calculated for much more. This company is notorious for bad service as shown by the many complaints. And to add to the rest, thanks for the robbery.

Worst delivery service we've experienced in 35 yrs of business!

R & L Freight from Fresno California is the most unprofessional freight company we have dealt with in 35 years of business, and trust me, we have used a lot of freight companies! Our purchasing department has been instructed to put the following g notice on all Purchase Orders to our vendors where freight will be needed "WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY DELIVERIES FROM R & L FREIGHT.

IF YOU CHOOSE TO CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY AND THE SHIPMENT IS REJECTED WE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLEFOR ANY CHARGES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SHIPMENT".

This company cannot deliver as promised, they lie about maki gco ta t for deliveries, their Fresno office (Mike) is rude and unprofessional. They must stay I business by being low bid on freightquote.com, because I can't imagine anyone actually using them for any other reaso !

Damaged Table and Refuse Responsibility

I ordered a $1600 dining room table from a small craftsman in Niagara Falls, NY. He warned me to inspect any package for damage when it was delivered. R+L Carriers of Wilmington, OH delivered a damaged package and got an unsuspecting neighbor to sign for it (it was delivered outside the promised window of time when we were home). Jeffrey Wade, attorney for R+L refused to make restitution (he offered $1 per pound). In small claims court, the judge found that R+L had delivered the product damaged, but said I would need to sue the small guy who made the table and he would have to sue R+L. The craftsman has no stomach (or funds) to legally do this, and I have no interest in suing him. So R+L shirks responsibility. This is a highly unethical company in an industry not known for good behavior.

Never ship buy a NON UNION company! You'll find that your union carriers care more about the products that are being loaded into their trailers and take their time, and usually know that it's a piece of furniture, and try to protect it, trying to save that 5 dollars usually cost you in the long run, Try ABF next time found their drivers to do a good job delivering .

Unprofessional and ill-equipped to handle job

Initially the rl carriers called to set up drop off. I explained I would be gone and asked if I needed to resched. I was told no and just leave a note on door with where I wanted shipment. I did so. I recieved a call later that next day that they were not able to deliver bc I had a dog on property that was not leashed. I live on a farm..not unusual. I told them I would happily lock dog up and they could drop off but was told I would have to pay shipping AGAIN! I told the rude dispatcher I would not and that had I been told to put animals away I would have but on a farm dogs n cats are the norm. To which he went off on some rant about why I don't leave my bulls and horses out if I think its ok to leave my dogs out and that if I wanted my shipment so bad I could drive myself up to them and pick it up...then he hung up..SERIOUSLY..that rude and unprofessional! Customer service then took over the problem and set up shipping another day. I had my husband *** work bc I was afraid of what to expect when it arrived after being so poorly treated on ph. It gets WORSE! So the shipment arrives and driver is friendly but he can't even get it OFF the truck!! They say they are equipped for larger crates but my husband had to use his own skid loader to unload it from the truck!! What a JOKE! I didnt have a choice in carriers as the company my crate came from was trying them as a shipper. If you have the choice I would use a real freight company for your shipping needs!

Report your problem to the company who shipped the crate. Advise them that any future purchases you make from them must be shipped by another carrier or you will take your business elsewhere.

Pick up scheduling is ridiculous!

This is only the 2nd time I have had to use this company and only because it is what my customer requested. Both times they have made the exact same error. I am in an office bldg with no dock so when I called in for the pick up I told them 4 times that it would need to be a small truck with a lift gate and pallet jack. She even repeated this back to me. I called a few hours later to confirm the pick up time and special instructions and was told, "yep, everythings good". I close at 4:30 which they knew. At 4:36 I get a call that the driver can't get into the parking lot because his truck is too large. I told them again what I told both dispatchers and said you need to figure this out now because I am closed and the product must be shipped today. They made their driver push his pallet jack around my building to pick up both pallets! After the first time this happened I was on the phone with my local area manager and he apologized profusely and swore if I gave them another chance that it would not happen again. What a joke! I just can't believe that both times I have had to use them they have screwed up the exact same way! I hope to never encounter this joke of a shipping company again!

DO NOT WORK FOR R+L!!

This company is a JOKE. BEWARE, DO NOT WORK FOR THEM!!

My husband is an experienced CDL driver, he applied for and was hired for a City driver, local pick up and drop off position. Day 1 on the job, he comes in to work, no one knew he was starting that day, they put him in a room, had him watch videos from 8 am to 2:30 pm and then sent him to Harrisburg BY HIMSELF (we live right outside Philadelphia so it's at least 2-3 hours away). No training, no orientation, NOTHING. He expressed his concerns over the fact that they had him doing line hauls when he was hired for LOCAL work, but because he is a hard worker and typically good employee he got in the truck and went and didn't get home until midnight.

Day 2 on the job, he goes to work- they send him to Harrisburg AGAIN (at 10 in the morning), alone, and tell him when he gets back, he's then expected to go to Baltimore, Maryland! Another 3 hour one way drive!! Legally he wouldn't even have enough log hours left to do both trips in one day! Again, despite this not being the job he applied, interviewed, and was hired for, he gets in the truck and goes to Harrisburg because the manager of the company conveniently wouldn't be in until 1 pm.

He gets back from Harrisburg at 3:45pm (and is still expected to go to Baltimore and back this evening). Upon returning to his terminal he speaks with his manager who "didn't know they were sending him on 2 line hauls" and when my husband asked how long this manager knew he intended to have him do line hauls instead of the local pick up and drop off he stated he knew it for at least a week prior to my husband starting the job but failed to ever communicate this to my husband. They hired him, took advantage of the fact that he is a hard working, good person with a family to feed and were completely deceitful in their intentions for him. If you look on the R+L website, you'll see that they are offering a $1000 sign on bonus for drivers who are hired for line hauls, and when my husband inquired about this since that's what they had him doing, he was told he was "not eligible because that's not the job he applied for".

REALLY?!! So they baited my husband to come work for them, offering him one job, and once they had him, decided they were going to give him no other option but to do the work given to him, and not properly compensate him for it. I had heard of R+L practicing this way from other posts on the internet, but was hoping my husband would have a different experience. NOT.

LIARS, CHEATERS, STEALERS these people are, and because my husband refused to be out all hours of the night for a job he didn't even sign up for, they fired him. Real classy.

Just an example of the way this company chooses to operate and treat their employees. Terrible, terrible, terrible!!

My wife and I team drive linehaul at r+l and are very happy. We too watched videos on our first day and then were given a truck and sent on our way.

I appreciate no orientation. We already know how to drive a truck. R and L does a lengthy background check on all drivers. They ran a criminal and driving record check on us that went back to my 1st license at 16.

They trusted your husband knew how to drive. My wife and I make the most money we have ever made trucking here. 90k a year each. Home every night for 4 hrs and off 2 full days every weekend.

The drivers I know are also happy and have been here 10 plus years. We will retire here.

I hate seeing my company drug through the mud. They are the best We have worked for in 25yrs of trucking for me and 15 for her.

Your full of it. No manager comes in at that time unless he was covering for another person on his staff, your husband was hired as a combo which means he goes where they need him.

Did he not get a check?

Did you not eat? Sounds like your a couple of babies and want to cry about your husband having to sit on his *** and get a good wage for it..

They lie about actual cost.

They are liars. They quoted me $398 for one pallet, all nice and smooth, they informed me that pallet is insured $19.75 per pound, so I insured the shipment for $12000 according to the weight, they upcharged me additional $300 for insurance. They lie, quote department is fool of liars, they want to get you in by giving you low quote ones they have the shipment they do whatever they want. I wanted to be on the safe size so I stated 600lbs one pallet, quote dept. told me if the pallet is more of less, they will readjust the bill according to the actual weight. Well pallet was 415 lbs but they still charged me for 600lbs. STAY AWAY FROM R&L !!!!

I was quoted one price and then never informed that my engine block weighed more than estimated. I chose to ship from my place of business to their warehouse to save the additional charges to deliver to a residential address.

Now I got charged an additional 200.00 because I used my name and my dad's name and they say that isn't business to business!! Really it was your warehouse and we drove out of our way to pick it up so there would be a loading dock! When they picked it up at my place of employment my coworkers loaded it with OUR forklift! This is unbelievable!

My original estimate of 480.00 now became 826.00.

No cortesy call! There customer service SUCKS!!!

Their company policy is to avoid claim responcibility

My company shipped a machine to a customer that was valued at $12,000. The truck had an accident and went into a river. R and L sent the machine back to me for inspection, less the crate, fully damaged and water soaked, so we told them it was a total loss and filed a claim with them. There is not even any question as to what was the fault of the damage, however when a claim was submitted they offered us less than $2000, which we refused. Then they offered $2500 and told us that was the max they would pay, which we refused and contacted our attorney. After months of legal fees they offered $5000 and our attorney told us that they know it is costing us a lot and they were playing it out and sugested that we accept the offer becasue they want to eat up our recovery with legal fees. We reluctantly accepted the offer. In the mean time the R and L driver could not pick up any more freight if we filled in the declaired value amount on the bill of lading. This is something that protects the shipper, and most people dont fill it out but we always do. They clearly wanted to have the upper hand on any shipment claim. We further investigated why and find out that in the fine print in their tarriffs they declair that their max liability is $1 per pound, where all the other freight companies limit their liability to $10 per pound. This clear shows that they do not intend to pay freight claims. In our case at $1 per pound they would have only been legally responcible for $2000 for our $12000 shipment. CLEARLY SHOWS THEIR COMPANY POLICY IS DO NOT PAY FREIGHT CLAIMS, WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN

I had an 850 pound pallet "vanish" while they were bringing it to me. They blocked a police investigation, protected who ever was responsible.

Their so called investigator won't return calls or emails. My loss was $58000.00 they offered me $85.

They know the cost of a law suit and are sure they can avoid compensating me for my loss.

USE SOME ONE ELSE !!!

R+L Carriers is excellent at demolishing new product, not paying claims and in general not providing any customer satisfaction.

This company is totally irresponsible when it comes to handling freight and does not admit carrier mishandling. You may as well throw your freight away if you decide to ship with these clowns.

Guest

We are considering class action against R & L based on this same business practice. We have been using them for 4+ years and paying shipping fees based on 250 class.

They damaged our shipment and will only pay based on class 50 which is $2.00 per pound ($320 total reimbursement), eventhough total claim amounts to $3000. Bottom line they charge rates for higher class and attempt to pay claims on lower class.

We have hundreds of shipments with R & L that have been overcharged (class 250) and feel there are others in similar situations. We need to join together and file joint action.

RL Carriers doesn't take pride in anything but screwing their customers when there is a problem. You *** are rude and have lost all my business after you screwed me on one claim in three years and it was clearly your fault.

Plus you have now lost all of my business along with the fact I bad mouth you to all my business friends. Hope to see you folks go bankrupt!!!

I too shipped equipment and machinery with RL way too many damages as to the tarriff it depends absolute max liability is 25 dollars per pound but can be as low as 10 cents per pound depending on class and pricing structure. Their additional insurance is way high too. I tried freightquote.com and they used RL and I had nothing but problems I use pnglc.com now.

I set up a delivery of item from 9-11AM well in advance and even called them the day before to confirm the time. Well after time promised, item still not delivered. When you call them you get transferred all around and put on hold with different stories. And originally I was called by them to set up a delivery day while the item was still in transit. I tracked the item and found it was not even in my area yet. After I called them about where the item really was I was told we had to reschedule the delivery.
